Biotech instructor Joseph Oleniczak has been traveling to world to learn more about international biotechnology. Last December, he shared details from a trip to Spain. His most recent trip and module covers biotechnology in Iceland. Oleniczak and fellow teacher Teresa Coomaraswamy, from Anderson High School, Austin, TX, went to Iceland seeking to learn more about marine biotechnology and agricultural biotech.

The overarching goal for the module is to help students develop an international perspective on biotech and learn how these technologies might help mitigate the effects of climate change.

Both modules, Iceland and Spain, and freely available on Canvas.

Check out the new Canvas modules on Biotechnology in Iceland, and Biotechnology in Spain in Canvas Commons!

You may also want to visit Biotech-Careers and investigate Icelandic companies.  Please note given the recent volcanic eruptions, Icelandic companies near Grindavik may be moving to new locations.

Funding for this project was provided a Global Teacher Grant from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, administered by IREX Award Number:S-ECAGD-20-CA-0010.
