ESA/QUBES Data Explorers Faculty Mentoring Network

Have you noticed how data analysis has become such a big part of our world?  Gathering data has been an integral part of science for a very long time but the ways we use data have exploded in complexity and power.  Bringing that complexity to classroom discussions is both necessary and challenging, and that is where the ESA/QUBES Data Explorers Faculty Mentoring Network event can help! 

The Quantitative Undergraduate Biology Education Synthesis (QUBES) Project and the Ecological Society of America (ESA) are currently in their third round of Faculty Mentoring Networks (FMNs). These online communities are professional development opportunities where participants work collaboratively to discover new teaching materials, pedagogical techniques, and quantitative content. 

All faculty are welcome. They actively seek participation from faculty teaching at all undergraduate levels at diverse institution types and serving diverse student populations, including non-science majors.

The Spring 2018 ESA Data Discovery FMN participants are interested in adapting existing Teaching Issues and Experiments in Ecology (TIEE) modules for use in their Spring 2018 courses. Faculty participants are implementing two selected modules with a focus on providing students with the quantitative skillset needed to ‘scale up’ to large ecological datasets.
