Lilly invests in Ivy Tech Community College, Bloomington, IN
Lilly will be investing $15 million in Ivy Tech Community College, Bloomington, IN, to complement the record-breaking total commitment of $3.7 billion (and 700 jobs) it has made in pharmaceutical manufacturing in the area.
The company will fund up to 1,000 scholarships over the next 5 years for individuals interested in pursuing careers in pharmaceutical manufacturing. First generation students (40% of Ivy Tech's student population) and those who overcame socioeconomic disadvantages will be given preference. The new Lilly Scholars @ Ivy Tech program will also fund an experiential learning program with a smart manufacturing lab to help prepare the students to work in manufacturing, quality or related fields. In addition, the program will also support high school students with a new pathway that would grant a college certificate in pharmaceutical manufacturing or medical device quality upon graduation.
This partnership will provide a much needed timely support for Ivy Tech's Biotech program. The program has been suffering with the enrollment shortage over the last several years and Ivy Tech lost multiple Biotech program offering campuses as a result. This partnership will leverage the programs that were developed and implemented through the NSF ATE and DOL grants. Lilly is also excited with this renewed partnership as they have a strong workforce need for their multiple new drug product launch.
Lilly created the first Lilly Scholars program with Purdue University in 2022 and over the past three years has invested $6.4 billion in U.S-based manufacturing sites with world-wide distribution of medicines that treats some of the most wise-spread and significant health challenges such as diabetes, obesity and its long-term effects, Alzheimer's, and cancer.
