Making the Call: Day 5 Filming the interactive movie

This is our final day on the set where the educational interactive movie: Making the Call: Quality in Biomanufacturing,is being filmed by the amazing film crew from Pellet Productions. This talented group from Pellet is producing hours of professional footage that will be processed and edited into a “choose your own adventure” movie that will prepare students to work in a regulated biomanufacturing environment. The Pellet team, led by executive producer Anthony Manupelli, includes director Bob Roche; camera operators Gilberto Nobrega and Jason York; writer and science editor, David Levin; sound Keith McManus; lighting experts, John Minard and Ricky Hamilton; a script supervisor Brenda Coffey; and Judi Kelemen, production assistant. 

Being on this movie set has been an awesome experience for Jeanette, Vivian, and I. More importantly, we are excited about the rich resource for teachers and students that is being created. In a few months we will have the interactive movie itself. This interactive production will interweave technical content with story and human interest that will capture students’ attention and help them sense and feel the culture of the regulated workplace. The technical content of this feature was extensively vetted throughout its development by a team of experts. Additionally we are capturing short educational videos and photos that illustrate biomanufacturing equipment and techniques and talk about careers and opportunities in the biotechnology industry. When everything is complete, we will have an exciting teaching resource that is quite different from, and complements, other quality-related instructional materials.

After a couple of days on the set we Bio-Linkers were inspired to volunteer to be extras. So far, we have been in two conferences. Here we are on the set at a conference.

Jeanette, Lisa, and camera man, Jason York (next to Jeanette) are extras at a conference where contamination in the production suite is being discussed. Also seated at the table are the actors who play roles as the production team in our imaginary company, Franklin Biologics. We are all smiling now but we were quite serious about this contamination during our meeting.
