BiotechTV’s Ali Gorman interviewed Wistar’s Dr. Kristy Shuda McGuire, MS, PhD, dean of Biomedical Studies, and Biomedical Technician Training (BTT) Program graduate & mentor Trey Whiting, a Biotechnology student at Thomas Jefferson University, on this 25th year of the BTT program. A state-credentialed pre-apprenticeship, Wistar’s signature education & training program gives students the needed, on-the-job lab training that will serve them well in the region’s life science workforce. The program recently received an additional $650K NSF Advanced Technological Education grant to support its continued growth.  Watch the interview here.

BiotechTV reports on the biotechnology sector with news videos, stories about people on the go, and resources such as BiotechTV U, a channel for students, or anyone who wants to learn more about biotech. I got to watch a video about Humacyte's bioengineered human arteries (HAVTM), as well as see Moderna's CEO Stéphane Bancel lay out what he thinks is going to happen in 2024, and that is just a slice of all that is available.

BiotechTV U's content includes videos of university students' research, career advice and insights on how biotech business really works. I watched founder Brad Loncar interview PhD student Amanda Finck who works in the lab of Carl June. Dr June, along with his research team, published a ground-breaking therapy detailing engineering patients' own immune systems to attack disease cells--CAR-T. Amanda, who has an auto-immune disease herself, is interested in biomedical research on the academic side and is doing research in the solid tumor space. She is a fifth year, and is expecting one more year to wrap things up with an eye towards going into industry in the future. There are lots of other videos as well, to help give anyone watching some ideas about what is really involved in biotech. Watch some, and submit your own!
