Take a look at this great new resource to teach genetics online! Jackson Laboratory now has a MiniCourse for high school biology teachers, home school educators, curriculum directors, administrators, and education support personnel to evaluate and implement the Teaching the Genome Generation™ (TtGG™) Cancer Genetics Curriculum. This course allows educators to familiarize themselves with the content and plan effective pathways to implement the lessons in their own classrooms.

The course does offer a certificate upon completion of the Core Lessons and the Self-Review Quiz (with a minimum of 70%). A JAX digital badge credential is also available for $10 (USD) for adding to a resume or posting on social media platforms.

Topics that are covered in the curriculum include:

  • Basics of cancer genomics
  • Navigating the cBioPortal and BLAST®
  • The Exploring Hereditary Cancer with the cBioPortal activity
  • The Identifying Hereditary Cancer Using BLAST® activity
  • Teaching bioethics
  • Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • Implementation and differentiation strategies
  • Approaches to curricular integration
