Wanted: Program Director, Pharmaceutical and Biomanufacturing

The 12-month program director and faculty member for pharmaceutical and biomanufacturing will develop, manage, and teach open-enrollment credit and non-credit courses; provide day-to-day oversight of the program; recruit, supervise, and evaluate part-time faculty; assess program outcomes; schedule courses; maintain curricula; provide academic advising; serve on college committees; represent the program in the community; maintain strong positive relationships with external agencies; prepare students for industry jobs; and manage other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Dean of Business, Engineering and Technology and is located primarily at the College’s Chester Campus.
The individual will also provide leadership to meet the emerging workforce requirements of new and expanding pharmaceutical manufacturers in the Richmond/Petersburg region. Within the roles of teaching and providing program leadership, specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Being responsible for overall program and curriculum development.
- Developing and maintaining an industry advisory board.
- Maintaining current content, scientific, and regulatory agency knowledge related to pharmaceutical and biomanufacturing industry.
- Using sound andragogical methods to develop curriculum and engage students.
- Supporting students with advisement, hands-on training, and job placement.
- Interacting directly with industry leaders as well as production/quality managers.
- Tracking the progress of program development activities and ensuring key program milestones are achieved within agreed upon timelines.
- Maintaining the “overall picture” of the program development and providing/negotiating resolution of potential issues internally to prevent delays to program development timelines.
- Monitoring program performance and connecting short-term demands to long-term implications in alignment with supporting the pharmaceutical and biomanufacturing industry.
- Prioritizing multiple tasks while meeting deadlines; communicating the program status to stakeholders.
- Effectively balancing competing program constraints including but not limited to curriculum, schedule, funding, budget, resources, and risk to manage program success.
- Connecting program objectives to broader College goals.
- Developing and implementing program management processes and methodologies for teaching, equipment, and facility management.
