Program Description
Gloucester Biotechnology Academy is the educational entity of the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI). GMGI's Biotechnology Certificate program prepares students for careers as entry-level technicians in cutting-edge laboratories.
The program offers a Certificate in Biotechnology as well as training in the the following skills:
- Biomanufacturing
- Mammalian Cell Culture
- Laboratory Assistant
- Genomics
- Biotechnology Research Laboratory Assistant

- 6-months of immersive, hands-on bench training

- Three-month, paid internships with prestigious biotech companies in Massachusetts
Semester One: Focuses on fundamental molecular biology techniques, including DNA extraction, amplification, and PCR-based DNA cloning.

Advisory board: GMGI has a Board of Directors as well as a Leadership Council, both of which provide expert guidance and leadership across all aspects of the organization. GMGI also has an Education Advisory Council that provides guidance to Gloucester Biotechnology Academy’s operations and growth. In terms of an Industry Advisory Council, GMGI consistently consults industry partners for updates to curricula as well as instrumentation and career skills training.
Internships: GMGI offers a three-month, paid internship to students who complete the 6 months of lab training.
Tuition: All tuition and fees will be waived in their entirety for students in the program. Stipends may be available to students who qualify to help with living expenses, and a laptop computer is supplied to all enrolling students and gifted to graduates upon successful completion of the program.
