Program Description
Rapid expansion of the biotechnology industry in south central Indiana demands a highly-trained workforce and the biotechnology program at Ivy Tech Bloomington has partnered with local employers to ensure a competent workforce by using its state of the art labs for hands on training and industry-tailored curricula. A recommended path to the AAS degree in biotechnology is to complete one of the three certificates while working toward the degree. The certificates are designed to provide gateways toward entry level biotechnology careers existing in the local industry.
The program offers dual credit courses with high schools.
Tuition options: The biotech program has a special grant from the State, the Next Level Job grant, that provides a free tuition and other expenses to the students seeking our Certificates. Also, Eli Lilly offers Lilly Scholarships to our students who are pursuing a Biopharma Manufacturing Certificate and AAS degree in Biotechnology. The Lilly Scholarship covers free tuition and other expenses.

- Ivy Tech Bloomington was awarded an $85,000 Perkins Competitive Grant from the Indiana Department of Education, fall 2016 to increase rural career and technical education in biotechnology. The $85,000 grant was used to establish dual credit biotechnology classes at the high schools. Starting last spring, students at high schools in Bloomfield, Brown County, Eastern Greene, and Owen Valley, had the option to earn dual high school and college credit at no cost to their families.
- Duke Energy provided an additional $15,000, supporting the purchase of textbooks, not covered by the grant funding.
