SimplyHired.com is simply the best biotech job and career site I've ever see n

I found the best job searching site that I've ever seen today thanks to the folks at GenomeWeb . SimplyHired.com bills itself as a search engine for jobs and it's wonderful. It's the only site I've seen that has current salary data (look at the dates on graphs below - Feb 2nd, 2011!), shows the numbers of jobs by educational requirements, and really deals well with the multiple descriptions that are used for life sciences jobs.

Effective program planning and workforce training require that biotechnology programs keep tabs on the hiring needs of their local employers. Sometimes getting these data and updating them in real time can be a challenge. Most biotech programs have industry advisory boards, but their boards might be narrowly based or unaware of other companys' hiring needs. State workforce departments might be able to provide information, but the variety of job descriptions can make data gathering difficult.

I used to consult for Redhook back in my microbiology days when I had access to a -80?C freezer and a proper microscope, so I visited the building many times during the days of its former tenant.

Hey biotechnology students!

The NIH has set up an ">electronic mentoring program to help you find a mentor who can help guide you through a career path.

The mentoring happens via email and students must be 16 yrs or older. According to the LifeWorks site, the mentors are undergraduate or graduate students, university professors, dental professionals, postdoctoral fellows, independent researchers, clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel are invited to serve as e-mentors.

Tulsa World reports that high school and middle school teachers, from at least 24 school districts, are enthusiastically attending science school this summer at Tulsa Community College. TCC, a long-time Bio-Link program, obtained funding for the workshop from the NIH through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Oklahoma IDeA network.

Teachers who attend the workshop at TCC get to keep the equipment to use in the classroom, nearly $4000 worth of supplies for each class.
