Algae cultivation and biotechnology

Micro-algae are used to make multiple commercial products and also being to put work in cleaning up wastewater.  Algae-derived products include nutritional supplements, foods, dyes, textiles, biofuels, oils, and vitamins.  In an algal cultivation program, students learn about controlled environment requirements for successful cultivation of various algae species.

Courses in an algal cultivation program may include:

  • Technical Writing
  • Laboratory mathematics
  • Algae Cultivation
  • Algae Harvesting
  • Sustainable Energy Technologies (3)
  • Sanitation and Safety (2)
  • Pumps and Motors (2)
  • Applied Chemistry for Water Treatment Operators (4)
  • Microbiology for Water Treatment Operators (4)
