Genomics technicians process and perform DNA sequencing.  This procedure is important in genetic testing, ancestry studies, diagnostics, paternity, forensics, animal and plant breeding, basic research, and many other areas.

Students may also be trained in good laboratory practices in genomics and associated techniques.

Courses may include:

  • Genomics Theory
  • Research Design
  • Scientific Writing
  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Real Time PCR
  • Microfluidic Electrophoresis
  • Next generation DNA sequencing instrumentation - either Illumina HiSeq, PacBio, Ion Torrent, or other instruments
  • Internship
