Event Description
Welcome to the InnovATEBIO 2024 series of virtual ATE project talks. This series features leaders in biotechnology workforce education from across the US sharing their work on exciting projects funded by the National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education (ATE) program. The ATE program supports the education of technicians for the high-technology fields that drive our nation's economy.
Each talk will be 20 minutes, followed by 15 minutes for questions and discussion.

Talk 1: Development of a hands-on Flow Cytometry Curriculum

Description: This presentation will focus on the progress made in creating a cost-effective, industry-validated Flow cytometry training. With support from the Building a Cell Therapy and Flow Cytometry Workforce NSF ATE grant, FCC has successfully trained 32 students in fundamental Flow cytometry skills. Additionally, the curriculum has been disseminated to the Northeast Biomanufacturing Center & Collaborative (NBC2) (Biomanufacturing.org), to facilitate the introduction of hands-on flow cytometry curriculum in other biotech programs nationwide.

Talk 2: Strategies for engaging High School students through work-based learning as part of a Biotechnology pathway program

Description: During this project talk we will share strategies used to recruit and run a paid summer program with high school students as part of our Biotechnology pathway. We'll also share lessons learned from our efforts to have these students matriculate to the Skyline College Biotech program after high school.
