Biofuel Train the Trainer Academy

Apply now to attend the CERET Summer 2014 Biofuel Train the Trainer Academy.

The Consortium for Education in Renewable Energy Technology (CERET) announces that applications are now open for the Summer 2014 Biofuel Train the Trainer Academy.

This hands-on academy will cover the fundamentals of biofuels with an emphasis on fuel production, quality control, engine performance, and vehicle emissions. Participating teachers will produce biodiesel by the transesterfication process and perform ASTM measurements to determine chemical and physical properties of fuel. They will also perform a distillation of fermented feedstock and an enzymatic conversion of cellulosic biomass for ethanol fuel. Test engines will be operated on biofuels to evaluate both performance and emission properties.

The CERET Train the Trainer Academies have been funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (DUE #1205015) to provide professional development for the next generation of renewable energy two-year college and high school educators. These academies give educators from across the nation authentic hands-on renewable energy experiences. Academy participants will share classroom strategies, instructional materials, and best practices for teaching renewable energy technology in the high school and two-year college settings.

Current high school and two-year college science and technology instructors from across the U.S. are invited to apply. Instructors who are selected to participate will receive a stipend to cover travel expenses associated with the Academy. Participants may earn college credit for successful completion (tuition cost is approximately $100).
