Event Description

Join us to learn about strategies for helping students recognize, understand, and minimize variability while mastering fundamental biotech lab techniques. We’ll discuss practices for improving reproducibility as we introduce an open-access biotech lab manual from Dr.'s Lisa Seidman, Cynthia Moore, and Jeanette Mowery.

Download the free lab manual at basicbiotechmethods.com.

Speakers:

  • Lisa Seidman, PhD, Emeritus Faculty, Madison Area Technical College
  • Cynthia Moore, PhD, Emeritus Faculty, Illinois State University
  • Jeanette Mowery, PhD, Emeritus Faculty, Madison Area Technical College

Event Presentation

Using an Open-Access Basic Biotech Methods Lab Manual to Explore Variability and Reproducibility

The manual's authors: Lisa Seidman, Jeanette Mowery, and Cynthia Moore, discussed their open access, basic biotech methods lab manual, which is now freely available. They have been working on the manual for many years and recently made it open access with the help of publishers. The manual is designed to be used freely by students and educators, with the aim of enhancing scientific understanding through basic lab skills. The webinar focused on enhancing reproducibility and variability, with Jeanette and Cynthia sharing their experiences teaching with the manual. Oana Martin also contributed, discussing her use of the manual at Madison Area Technical College. The team plans to continue discussing the manual and its applications in future webinars.
