Cincinnati State Technical and Community College offers an Associates of Science, an Associates of Science--Biology Transfer Pathway, a Bioscience Certificate, and a Brewing Science Certificate.
The Bioscience Certificate at Cincinnati State is a stackable certificate aimed at providing students interested in pursuing an education and career in the biological sciences with an opportunity to engage with faculty who work in those fields. Students who complete the program are able to transfer to many 4 year institutions and have advanced laboratory skills that will enable them to work in their field of study as they finish their degree. In addition, these students are often more prepared for advanced biological coursework and have interests in working in industry to moving on to medical school or graduate school. Students who study bioscience develop skills relating to best practices in the non-clinical biological laboratory setting. The Bioscience Certificate employs a curriculum that trains and mentors students on topics including laboratory safety and standard operating procedures, foundational laboratory skills, advanced molecular genetics, critical analysis of scientific literature, protein purification and analysis, microbiology, and molecular biology. In addition, students enrolled in the Bioscience Certificate will complete an experiential learning course which places them in an internship, Co-Op, or special project aimed at connecting their education to their future career.
