The Biotechnology Associate Degree Program students acquire a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to perform complex laboratory procedures and analyze data for research and testing purposes. The program prepares students for positions such as a biotechnician for a variety of laboratory settings in the medical, environmental, industrial, and agricultural fields.
The curriculum includes four semesters of science, math, computer, and core courses. Program Graduate Competencies identify major learning goals related to a specific program of study and identify the knowledge and skills students will have when graduating to be successful in their chosen field. Major learning goals include:
- Apply knowledge of the theories and principles of biology and biotechnology.
- Employ good laboratory practices (GLP) and safety guidelines to conduct common laboratory operations.
- Employ standard laboratory documentation practices for data management and laboratory notebooks.
- Utilize chemical principles and apply mathematics in the preparation of laboratory solutions.
- Analyze samples by common quantitative and qualitative techniqu
