The Associate of Applied Science in Biotechnology from Sinclair Community College provides a full range of courses to prepare students for entry-level positions in the biotechnology field. The academic curriculum provides a background in historical development of biotechnology, bioethics, safety, reagent preparation, cell culture techniques, protein purification and analysis techniques, microbiology and fermentation methods, molecular biology (DNA) techniques and bioinformatics. With advances in molecular and cellular biology, the biotechnology industry has expanded in scope to include human diagnoses and therapeutics, agricultural and veterinary applications, food production and environmental cleanup.
Many of our students are involved in the Biotech Club. One of the big advantages of being in the club is networking with other students who aren’t necessarily in your year of the program or taking the course on the same campus. We go on tours of area biotech companies, sponsor guest speakers on campus, go on hikes around our area MetroParks, and set up fun activities (such as bowling, go-carts, end-of-term dinners, etc.).
All the Biotech/Bioscience degrees are available on 2 of our campuses, Dayton campus and Mason campus. We offer day and evening courses.
