We discussed three questions and tools to help answer them.
1. Where did SARS-CoV-2 come from?
2. How is COVID-19 spreading around the globe?
3. What can we learn about antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 proteins?
Dr. Sandra Porter, InnovATEBIO, Digital World Biology.
Biography: Sandra Porter received her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Washington, was a post-doctoral fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute, and taught for ten years in the biotechnology education program at Seattle Central Community College. Dr. Porter has designed lab and lecture courses in bioinformatics, biotechnology, genetics, immunology and microbiology. During the past 12 years, Dr. Porter has been teaching and developing course materials that use bioinformatics tools to investigate multiple aspects of biology, such as structure function relationships, viral evolution and immunity, the structural consequences of different types of mutations (nonsense, missense, and frameshift), the molecular basis of drug resistance, and the relationship between mutations and genetic disease.
