The community-authored ebook on integrating Oxford Nanopore DNA sequencing into hands-on educational experiences is now available!  Drs. Anna Feitzinger and Dave Micklos spoke about it at the Spring 2025 InnovATEBIO ATE project talk on March 28th and it is now available on the Nanopore Network webpage.

When you download the ebook, you get a great number of files, organized into folders with titles such as "Teaching_Resources" and Curated_Experiments", to name a few. It will take some time to go through all that is available, but I am sure it is well worth it! I took a look and honed in on the folder "Get_Started", which seemed like a good idea. Within that folder are 4 more folders, each one with information to indeed, help you get started with the Nanopore system in your classroom. The folder "time-and-cost" caught my eye, of course so I took a look at that. Estimates for prep, teaching activities, materials, were all there. Of course these are only estimates, but they can be a great starting point.

The home page of the guide lists a few things that the guide is NOT:  It is not a publication from the company Oxford Nanopore Technologies. The content was contributed and curated by community members, which is a real testimony to the dedication the community has to this technology. In addition, the guide is not a comprehensive exploration of all the capabilities of Nanopore sequencing. You can join the Nanopore Network of like-minded educators on QUBES and through their Slack channel for more information, and contribute your own ideas to the conversation.

Download it now and learn how your students can start using cutting-edge tools for sequencing DNA!
