Episode summary: Prof. James Hewlett first tells How Undergraduate Research (UG) started at Finger Lakes Community College, the origins and structure of the Community College Undergraduate Research Initiative (CCURI), How they help other Community Colleges start UG Research and finally, advice to students & faculty.

Podcast Guest: Professor Jim Hewlett, is the Executive Director of Community College UG Research Initiative (CCURI), Director of BioTechnology and BioManufacturing at Finger Lakes Community College, New York, and Co-PI of InnovATEBIO. Professor Hewlett received his Bachelor’s in Biology from Bucknell University, Masters in Physiology/Marine Biology from University of Connecticut and PhD in Pharmacology from University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

This is quite an interesting podcast-- undergraduate research is a very valuable tool in a student's preparation but it is not always (or ever!) easy to see how to start a UG program. Prof. Hewlett walks through one success story and gives valuable tips and how to make it happen.  The podcast is 36 minutes long, but the site also has a 2 minute "Hi-Five" list if that is all you have time for--well worth it.
