Rice University's Professional Science Master's

What do you do when you get to the end of your undergraduate program and want….MORE?  Sure, you can go the traditional route, further lab work perhaps towards a master’s or PhD…but maybe more lab work isn’t the right fit for you.

Rice University has a unique 2-year degree program in the Wiess School of Natural Science for students interested in going beyond their undergraduate degree, but who do not want to do a traditional Master’s of Science or PhD.

The Rice Professional Science Master's combines an interdisciplinary science curriculum with business, management and communication training, including a hands-on experience, enabling graduates to become successful in business and industry.  Students can earn the Master's in 21 months.  A thesis is not required, however each student will do an internship to acquire the real world experiences that are so valuable for future goals.

The programs’s Environmental Analysis track is geared to teach students methods that are needed by industrial and governmental organizations to deal with environmental issues.  It is a cross-disciplinary curriculum providing graduates with skills valuable to consulting firms, energy production companies, and government agencies.  Professional development, networking opportunities and communication coaching all add to the program's career preparation strength.  Specializations in Environmental Sustainability, Management & Policy, or Quantitiative Decision-Making are offered.

The program’s Bioscience and Health Policy track gives students a background in biological sciences complemented by courses in sociology, economics and policy studies. It provides tools to face the complex challenges inherent in the bioscience research, public health, the U.S. healthcare systems and health-related industries.  Students benefit from the program's close collaborations with bio-related organizations and industry. Specializations in Statistics/Data Analysis, Economics, or Policy Analysis are offered.

Applications for the Professional Master's are submitted online.  The Fall admission deadline is February 15th, the Spring admission deadline is November 1.

Both programs also offer a Coordinated MBA/MS degree track in collaboration with Rice’s Jones School of Business. The programs offer rolling admissions, and are available as full-time or part-time options.
