Santa Fe College Students go to Brazil
Santa Fe College’s Perry Center for Emerging Technologies is running a Brazilian exchange trip for students in Biotechnology (A.S.), Industrial Biotechnology (B.A.S.) and Clinical Laboratory Science (B.A.S.). This program enables students to spend three weeks in the city of Botucatú, São Paulo State, Brazil, conducting an international internship. Students complete their internship in research laboratories belonging to the Universidade Estadual Paulist Julio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). Beyond being immersed in Brazilian culture, students are involved with various applications of the biotechnology methods. They engage in experiments, the collection of data, and/or presentation of scientific information.
Research for week 1 included DNA extraction using magnetic beads, Sanger sequencing and NGS of plant DNA.
