Using & Adapting Case Studies in the Bioscience Classroom Session

Presentation Description

Presenter:  Deborah Overath

Description:  Case studies are an effective active learning technique for the bioscience classroom; however, it can be a little overwhelming to use a case study or adapt it for your own classroom for the first time. This session is designed to help participants gain experience and confidence in using and adapting case studies. The first half of the  session will be devoted to participants doing a case study written by the presenter for the National Center for Case Study Teaching in  Science peer-reviewed case collection on the connections between  Mendelian and molecular genetics using the discovery of the bitter taste receptors for PTC. In the second half, participants will discuss how to implement and/or adapt the case in their own classes. Resources for using and finding suitable case studies will also be made available.
