Event Description

The goal of Mentor-Connect, supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) is to develop or strengthen technician education programs in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

This opportunity is for faculty or colleges seeking NSF ATE funding who have not yet worked with a mentor to prepare an NSF ATE proposal. Successful applicants will participate in Cohort 10 (October 2021-October 2022).

Apply online at: https://www.mentor-connect.org/get-a-mentor/applications/new-to-ate and send required affidavit to Mentor-Connect@fdtc.edu by 11:59 p.m. EST, October 8, 2021 to be considered for this opportunity! Applications will be considered incomplete until both items are submitted. Applicants will be notified of selection on November 5, 2021. Only one application per college is allowed in response to this Call for Applications.

Two-year college teams consisting of two STEM faculty from each applicant college and at least one administrator and/or grant writer will be selected to receive National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) grant proposal development and submission assistance. Colleges who participate in Mentor-Connect's Mentorship program can increase their chances of being awarded a grant up to $300,000, designated as a "Small Grant for Institutions new to ATE."

College teams selected for Mentor-Connect are expected to attend two, in- person workshops: winter and summer workshops (*Note: either in person or virtually depending on CDC COVID-19 regulations). Faculty travel support is provided for both workshops. Colleges are also expected to work with an assigned mentor from the winter workshop through the October 2022 ATE proposal submission date. Mentors have extensive experience in STEM disciplines, preparing NSF grant proposals, and managing ATE awards. Mentors will be on-hand to provide guidance and feedback throughout the grant development process.
